Apple announce third-party apps!

By: GFunk

Wednesday 17 October 2007 - 10:57:53

At last, Apple have admitted it - they do want third party apps and they're getting the wheels in motion right now. Steve himself has just posted on the apple.com site...

"Let me just say it: We want native third party applications on the iPhone, and we plan to have an SDK in developers’ hands in February. We are excited about creating a vibrant third party developer community around the iPhone and enabling hundreds of new applications for our users."

So, from next year you'll be getting applications to install LOCALLY on your iPhone. The delay, according to Apple, is because they're trying to make the platform both open and secure at the same time.

1.1.1 - More trouble for unlocked phones

By: GFunk

Friday 28 September 2007 - 07:11:20

Nuts. It looks like the new update to 1.1.1 of the iPhone is again put the spanner in the works for unlocked iPhones. iPhoneSIMFree have developed a work-around at present, but it does mean that you'll need your AT&T SIM card again to reactivate the phone.

We'll keep an eye on this. It looks like Apple will continue to battle against this unlocking while the SIM unlockers will continue to work ways around it.

o2 have celebrated with their own iPhone page which is coupled with the UK Apple site. The specs show it to be the EDGE-capable 8Gb version, currently selling for $399 in the USA (that's £200 in our money), meaning that we'll be paying £69 more than our US cousins! The only bad side is the 18 month contract, which o2 will tie you into when you buy.

By: GFunk

Friday 07 September 2007 - 10:50:36

Wait, you know all that "using your iTunes music as ringtones for an extra 99c" business? Well, there's a way around it thanks to the guys in the macrumours.com forum. iPhone 4Gb gets dropped - 8Gb version gets price drop

By: GFunk

Wednesday 05 September 2007 - 14:26:38

Here in Europe we don't even have the iPhone yet. Over in the US of course it's selling like ice cream on a hot day. Still, if you've shelled out $599 for the 8Gb one or you spent cash on the 4Gb version then you're still happy right?

Ah no. Unfortunately, if you're an existing iPhone owner you'll probably be kicking something right now. Why? Well, Apple have just announced that the 4Gb version will be dropped. Yes, you heard that right - dropped. Prepare yourself eBay buyers, because you're going to get swamped with these things.

Surely that's all the bad news for you "early adpoters" right? Well.... nope, sorry. They've also announce the slashing of the 8Gb version to just $399. Yep, $200 less than you guys paid. Sorry guys. Still, if you've held back from the iPhone until now it's all good news for you because it'll now be selling for a lot less than you expected.

Here in Europe of course we're still waiting for it to appear, probably priced way about our American cousins even after this price cut

Oh, and there's something called the iPod Touch too. Imagine the iPhone without the phone capability and you're there.

The iPhone ringtone solution from Apple

By: GFunk

Wednesday 05 September 2007 - 14:09:50

Well, as we told you earlier, Apple have launched their expected ringtone solution for the iPhone. Slotting in perfectly with the whole iTunes thing, you can create, edit and play your tracks for iPhone ringtones.

Right now you can buy a song for 99¢ then simply turn it into a ringtone for another 99¢ and it's yours to keep. Getting the ringtone over to your iPhone is easy, just use the ringtone editor, trim out up to 30 seconds of it, do your fading and bingo - it's sync'd to your iPhone.

Now the real fun starts!

By: GFunk

Friday 24 August 2007 - 10:30:10

Yes, it's true Engadget.com have seen it themselves and had their very own iPhone unlocked. It's now on the T-Mobile network and free of the AT&T network. Remember our earlier story on this? We told you how the guys at iPhoneSIMFree were so confident of their upcoming unlocking system that sites could see it done on any test iPhone. The result? It worked a treat.

The iPhone is now free. I guess the guys at iPhoneSIMFree will soon be earning stacks off this because, as yet, no-one else has come close to unlocking the iPhone for network-free SIM swapping fun.
